The Millikin men's basketball team lost on the road at Elmhurst College 69-64 on Jan. 11 in Elmhurst, Ill.
Elmhurst had a 32-27 advantage at the half, but the Big Blue fought back and pulled ahead early in the second half. Elmhurst would then battle its way back ahead in the games final six minutes. Millikin pulled to within two points three different times in the last two minutes, but each time the Bluejays had an answer.
Elmhurst shot 41 percent (19-46) from the field while the Big Blue hit 40 percent (22-55) of its shots. The difference in the game was at the free throw line where Elmhurst took full advantage of its opportunities hitting on 31-36 (86 percent) while Millikin struggled at the line hitting only 59 percent (16-27). Elmhurst out rebounded Millikin 38-31.
Millikin's top scorer and rebounder was Deavis Johnson with 14 points and eight rebounds. TJ Griffin scored 13 points and Tommy Pilackas added 10.
Elmhurst was led by Nick Sanford with 12 points and the Bluejays had three players score 11 points each.
Millikin goes to 7-7, 1-2 while Elmhurst improves to 9-5, 1-2.
Millikin will have to regroup in a hurry as the Big Blue host #3 Illinois Wesleyan on Jan. 15 at 7 p.m. in the Griswold Center.
