OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's basketball team defeated the Maritime Privateers by the score of 66-49 Thursday night at the Clark Athletic Center. With the win, the Panthers improve to 8-4 on the season (4-1 Skyline) while the Privateers drop to 3-8 (1-3 Skyline).
The Panthers grabbed the game's initial two points and never relinquished the lead for the contest's duration. In a first half that finished with Old Westbury up 39-28, the Panthers led by as many as 14 and never allowed their opponents any opportunity to rally.The second half saw more of the same, as Old Westbury continued to control proceedings. The Panthers put together a 20-6 run from 12:47 to 2:39 to lift them to a game-high 21-point lead and even prevented Maritime from scoring a field goal from 10:49 to 1:08 of the second half.
Despite Old Westbury's bench being outscored (13-23), the Panthers dominated the paint and compiled a 34-20 advantage. Old Westbury also registered a total of nine blocks.
Old Westbury was led by Floyd Leroy, who registered 15 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for his second double-double of the season, while also serving up two blocks. Ray Parker pitched in with 13 points, Omari Trebuse added 11 and Mark Gjonlekaj collected 10 and added a game-high four blocks. Andrew Andries had a career- and game-high 14 rebounds.
