First Half Shooting Leads UW-La Crosse to Victory

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's basketball team earned a 79-51 victory over UW-Superior Wednesday night in Mitchell Hall.  The Eagles improve to 10-4 overall and 4-1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Yellowjackets fall to 4-9 overall and 1-3 in the conference.  UW-L earned its seventh straight win over UW-Superior. 

UW-L raced out to a 12-4 lead.  The Eagles missed their first three shots from the field before making their next four, including back-to-back three-point field goals from Luke Tweed and Trent Schmidt.  UW-Superior later cut the deficit to 14-10 with 12:46 remaining on a Aaron Corry jumper, but UW-L went on a 12-2 run to lead 26-12.

After missing their first three-point shot of the game, the Eagles converted their next nine shots from behind the arc.  UW-L finished 10-of-14 (71.4%) from the field in the first half.  The Eagles led 49-26 at halftime.

UW-Superior could get no closer than 20 points in the second half.

UW-L shot 50.9% from the field, including 50.0% (10-of-20) from three-point range, and 75.0% (15-of-20) at the free throw line. 

Schmidt led the Eagles with 15 points and six rebounds.  Tweed and Ryan Kruser each finished with nine points while Lucas CollomCale Zuiker and Connor De Bruin had eight. 

UW-Superior shot 39.6% from the field, including 17.6% (three-of-17) from three-point range, and 50.0% (six-of-12) at the line. 

Corry led the Yellowjackets with 12 points while Zach Schradle finished with seven points and game-high seven rebounds.

UW-L returns to action Wednesday, January 15 at UW-Stout at 7 p.m.
