DOVER, Del. – Wesley College's 20th-ranked men's basketball team  dominated the second half to defeat Southern Virginia, 67-51, on Saturday afternoon at Wentworth Gymnasium.  The Wolverines improve to 8-1 on the season while the Knights fall to 2-5 overall.

Four Wesley players scored in double figures, led by David Langan and Wayne Lennon who tallied 13 points apiece.  Langan also was a monster on the glass, recording a season-high 20 rebounds with ten coming on the offensive end. Eric Selby pitched in with 11 points while Anthony Bowers recorded ten off the bench.  AJ Tilghman also contributed with nine points off the bench as well.

The matchup was neck-and-neck until midway through the first half when Southern Virginia rallied to within three points on a free throw with 9:48 left by Preston Eaton, who registered a game-high 16 points.  From there it looked like Wesley was going to run away with the game scoring 15 straight points over the next 3 minutes and 40 seconds to go up 30-12.

Southern Virginia then went on a 17-0 run of their own that lasted over five minutes to get back to with one point at 30-29 with just under a minute left in the period.  A free throw by Tilghman with 18 seconds left stopped the bleeding with a free throw with 18 seconds remaining, giving Wesley a 31-29 halftime lead.

Both teams traded buckets to open the second half but a layup by Selby started a 10-2 Wolverines run  that was capped off by a traditional three-point play by Langan, giving Wesley a 45-35 lead with 10:31 remaining in regulation.

A made bucket by the Knights on their next possession cut the deficit to within eight points but that would be as close as Southern Virginia would get.

Washington College hosts Wesley in a crosstown rivalry game on Monday, January 6 at 6 pm.
