Solid Shooting Leads Ohio Northern Past Caltech

PASADENA, CA – A hot shooting Ohio Northern men's basketball team posted a 102-69 win over Caltech on Sunday afternoon.

Ohio Northern converted 40 of their 61 field goal attempts en route to shooting a season best 65.6 percent from the floor.

Brandon Rushton led a foursome of players in scoring for the visitors as the senior went 9-for-14 from the floor en route to a 21-point afternoon. Rushton also grabbed a game high seven rebounds.

Jordan Martin tallied 15 points while Dominique Royal (13) and Jared Horstman (12) rounded out the double figure scorers for the visitors.

The Polar Bears jumped out to a quick lead and never looked back. They scored the first nine points of the game and eventually took a 21-4 lead less than seven minutes into the contest. Yet, Caltech slowly crept back into the half. When Bryan Joel converted a lay-up with 6:32 left until intermission the Beavers were down just nine points at 28-19.

However, the visitors finished the period on a 22-11 scoring run to take a 50-30 advantage into the locker room. Ohio Northern hit 19 of their 29 shots (65.5 percent) in building their halftime lead.

Ohio Northern continued their torrid shooting in the second half as they knocked down 21 of their 32 second half field goal attempts in grabbing the victory.

A bright spot in the second half for Caltech was Kc Emezie's 17-point final period. The sophomore recorded three dunks and had a stellar blocked shot during a five minute stretch in the stanza.

Lawrence Lee went for 12 points while Joel scored 10 off the bench for the home team.
