Beavers Cap Off Two Win Weekend with Victory over IIT

THOUSAND OAKS, CA – A winning weekend for the Caltech men's basketball team concluded with an 82-65 win over Illinois Institute of Technology on Sunday afternoon.

The Beavers won on Saturday afternoon 70-67 in overtime against UC Santa Cruz.

In Sunday's win the Beavers set a season high for most points in a game, most field goals made (29) while hitting half of their 58 field goal attempts. The 50 percent shooting mark tied a season high.

After the Scarlet Knights built a lead due, in large part, to a successful long range game the Beavers shifted the game in their momentum. Just before the midway point of the first half, and trailing 20-14 with 10:52 left until halftime, Caltech went on a 19-4 scoring run capped off by a Lawrence Lee jumper with 6:04 remaining in the frame. Caltech eventually took a 44-32 lead into the locker room.

Illinois Tech made a run in the second half and cut their deficit down to five points at 48-43 with 12:10 left in regulation. Caltech responded with a 12-5 scoring spree to up their lead to 62-50 with 8:47 left.

However, the Scarlet Knights made one final scoring push as they scored seven straight points to get within 62-57. However, that five point spread was as close as they would get down the stretch. Caltech pull away with solid shooting from the floor while holding the Scarlet Knights to just two made field goals the rest of the game.

Lawrence Lee and Andrew Hogue both had excellent shooting afternoons as both players went 7-for-9 from the floor. Hogue registered team highs in points (21) and rebounds (12) in tallying his first double-double of the season. Lee recorded a 15-point, seven-rebound performance in 30 minutes of action.

Kc Emezie also had a solid day with an 18-point effort while Bryan Joel rounded out the double figure scorers with a 13-point afternoon. It is the fourth straight game the Beavers placed four players in double figures.  

Anthony Loss led all scorers with 32.
