Montclair, NJ – Sophomore guard Angel Gonzalez (Ocala, FL, Meadowbrook Academy) scored 20 points and was named the named the tournament's Most Valuable Player as Montclair State captured the Team Hill Holiday Classic with a 100-73 win over Berkeley College at the Panzer Athletic Center.

Senior guard Daniel Singleton (Neptune, NJ, Neptune) scored a game-high 21 points and also added five rebounds for the Red Hawks (4-6), who won their second straight game. A day after scoring 104 points in its opening –round win over Vaughn, MSU topped the century mark for the second consecutive game marking the first time it has accomplished that feat since 1968 when it opened the 1968-69 season with three straight games of 100 points or more.

Gonzalez and Singleton were part of the All-Tournament Team along with Berkeley's Carl O'Neil (Newark, NJ) and Dukens Germain (Maplewood, NJ), Neumann University's Mark Blount (Philadelphia, PA) and Vaughn College's Rashad Luckett (Chicago, IL).

Hassan Abdullah (Trenton, NJ) had 14 points for the Knights (8-6), who had their four-game winning streak snapped with the loss.

For the second consecutive game, Gonzalez and Singleton did the damage for Montclair State as the duo combined to outscore Berkeley in the first half 28-27 helping MSU to a 45-27 halftime lead. Gonzalez dropped in 16 with Singleton netting 12 as Montclair shots 60 percent (20-of-33) from the field.

Gonzalez gave the Red Hawks, who never trailed in the game, a 3-0 lead 16 seconds into the game as he hit all three free throws after being fouled. A Singleton basket and Gonzalez jumper boosted the lead to 11-4 and Singleton's layup with 7:53 left put MSU in front 21-10.

Gonzalez connected twice on short jumpers and a layup by James D'Angelo (Long Valley, NJ, West Morris Central) gave Montclair a 33-15 advantage. Another steal and layup by D'Angelo made the score 45-24 and O'Neil's three-point heave at the first-half buzzer closed out the first half with MSU holding an 18-point bulge.

The Knights would get no closer than 14 points the rest of the way. Thaddeus Dalton (Piscataway, NJ) hit a layup with 12:14 left to make the score 63-49 however the Red Hawks scored the next 12 points, six by Ordel Goldson (Hackettstown, NJ, Warren Hills), to put the game away.

Goldson finished with a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds while Torres and Erick Loften-Harris (Union, NJ, Union) each getting 10 as Montclair State put five players in double figures. Senior Michael Spence had seven rebounds.

Germain and O'Neil finished with 13 and 11 points respectively.

In the Third-Place game, senior forward Mark Blount (Philadelphia, PA) posted a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds while also handing out four assists as Neumann University knocked off Vaughn College, 79-45.

Freshman guard DeShawn Lowman (Wilmington, DE) had 15 points while Rich Whitten (Yonkers, NY) added eight points and nine rebounds as the Knights (7-4) took control of the game early and never trailed in winning for the fourth time in its last five outings.

Sophomore guard Rashad Luckett (Chicago, IL) had 10 points for the Warriors, who fell to 8-5 with the loss.

Blount put the Knights on the board with a layup 12 seconds into the contest and later finished off an alley-oop from Reggie Coleman (Trenton, NJ) helping Neumann grab an 8-1 lead. Luckett hit two free throws for Vaughn to make the score 10-5 with 15:38 left however Blount had four points in a 17-7 run over the next five minutes to put the Knights in front 27-12 with 9:37 to go.
Back-to-back three-pointers by Kevin Green (Chester, PA) extended the lead to 35-20 with 6:57 remaining as Neumann, led by 14 points from Blount, went into halftime up 41-25.

Neumann shot 52 percent in the first half (18-of-34) and outrebounded the Warriors, 26-15. Coleman had six assists in the first 20 minutes as the Knights also held Vaughn to just 9-of-33 shooting (27 percent) in the period.

Jared Ndiba (Roxbury, NJ) connected on a jumper for Vaughn to open the second half but Blount finished off a 7-0 spurt with the final four points giving Neumann a 48-27 lead with 16:23 left in the game.

Green finished with eight points for Neumann with Ron Taylor (Wilmington, DE) getting seven. Mel Weldon (Trenton, NJ) added six points and six rebounds off the bench.

Ndiba and Moises Chaucer (Bronx, NY) each had eight points for Vaughn while Michael Pena (Dumont, NJ) chipped in with seven points.
