Kalamazoo College's Mark Ghafari was named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association's (MIAA) Player of the Week on Monday, Dec. 23.
A senior from Grosse Pointe Shores, Mich. (Grosse Pointe University Liggett HS), Ghafari averaged 24.0 points and 5.0 rebounds for the week as the Hornets split a pair of nonconference games. He had 19 points, eight rebounds, and four assists in leading Kalamazoo to a 90-86 win over Marygrove, then fired in 29 points, 24 of them in the second half, in an 87-77 loss to Purdue Calumet, Ind.
Ghafari, who is being honored as Player of the Week for the third time this season and fourth time in his career, currently leads all MIAA players in scoring at 28.8 points per game. He shot 45 percent from the field (14-of-31) and 74 percent from the free throw line (17-of-23) for the week.
Kalamazoo (4-4) returns to action at the Tampa Bay Shootout Dec. 29-30. The Hornets open with Regis College (Mass.) on Dec. 29 at 7 p.m.
