Guard Alex Eidson scored 14 points and forward Harrison Blackledge added a career-high 13 points as the Hope men's basketball team beat Lake Forest (Ill.) 78-66 on Friday night at DeVos Fieldhouse.

The Flying Dutchmen (3-4 overall) advanced to Saturday's 3 p.m. championship game of the Holland Sentinel/Russ DeVette Tournament.

Hope will play third-ranked Illinois Wesleyan (8-1), which was a 75-66 winner vs. Wilmington (Ohio) in Friday's first semifinal.

Friday's home opener drew 2,324 for the Flying Dutchmen, who have led NCAA Division III in home attendance the past 11 seasons.

"We never once take it for granted, but doggone it sure is good to be back here," Hope coach Matt Neil said. "I still believe that our fans are the best fans in America. It is so nice to come here. Without students, to have a pretty full house (at) 2,324 on a night we don't have students and it's an ice storm, that's the dedication people have for Hope basketball."

Eidson, a sophomore from Grand Haven (Grand Haven HS), also grabbed six rebounds against Lake Forest (3-6).

Blackledge, a freshman from Canton, Ohio (Hoover HS), scored most of his offense from the foul line. He made 11-of-13 free-throw attempts.

The Flying Dutchmen also received nine points apiece from sophomore guard Ben Gardner of Carmel, Ind. (Carmel HS), and junior guard Corey McMahon of Glenview, Ill. (Glenbrook South HS).

Senior forward Grant Neil of Holland (West Ottawa HS) and sophomore forward Brock Benson of Willowbrook, Ill. (Hinsdale South HS) scored eight points apiece for Hope.

Illinois Wesleyan received a game-high 17 points and 12 rebounds from Andrew Ziemink, 13 from Michael Mayberger off the bench and 12 points from Pat Sodemann against Wilmington (4-4).

R.J. Leppert's 13 points topped Wilmington, which will play Lake Forest at 1 p.m. on Saturday in the consolation game.
