ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. –Alston Furr scored a career-high 22 points in Guilford College's 84-78 overtime basketball win at North Carolina Wesleyan College Tuesday afternoon. The freshman forward drained six of seven three-pointers, including one in overtime, helping the Quakers move to 9-0 for the first time since the 2006-07 campaign.

Guilford advanced to 17th in this week's D3hoops.com Top 25 Poll, their highest ranking since the Quakers finished third in the final 2009-10 rating.

The Battling Bishops (4-5) missed their final four shots of the game, during which time Guilford did not allow an offensive rebound. Matt McCarthy's basket with 1:09 left opened a four-point spread and rookie Zachary Houston's two free throws with 12 seconds remaining iced the win.

N.C. Wesleyan's Josh Morrison scored nine points and Devontae Williams added five in the second half's final six minutes, which keyed a furious Bishops' rally. Zeb Richardson's basket with 5:18 left in regulation opened a 70-55 Quakers' edge, but N.C. Wesleyan closed the half on a 19-4 run, capped by D.J. Weaver's three-pointer with eight seconds left that forced extra time with the teams tied at 74.

The two squads traded baskets in overtime's first three minutes before Furr's decisive trifecta, which established the rookie's new career scoring high. Richardson finished with 15 points, 12 boards and two blocks for the Quakers. Teammate Jake Hopkins also notched a double-double, his team-leading third of the year, with 11 points and 14 boards.
