The sides traded baskets for the entire second half, but the Albright College men's basketball team scored the final six points to defeat Widener 78-74 on Saturday in Chester, Pa.

Down 74-72 with 45 seconds remaining, senior Sam Marrella tied it from the free throw line. Widener attempted a three-pointer but Albright's Kyle Jordan pulled down the rebound and took it coast-to-coast for the winning basket.

Jordan was also fouled and missed the and-one opportunity, but fellow senior Pedro Perez grabbed the offensive rebound and added two points after the Pride were forced to put him at the line.

Marrella made 6-of-8 field goals to finish with a game-high 18 points. Jordan had his second straight double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds.

Perez added 15 points and nine boards, including the icing shots for an Albright team that missed just one free throw in the second half (10-of-11).

Neither team led by more than five points for the entire second period. Widener held that distinction on three occasions in a wild sequence of five straight three-point baskets.

After Laron Byrd's layup gave Widener a five-point advantage 75 seconds into the second half, Marrella sank two triples to sandwich a three-pointer by Byrd. Andrew Radomicki canned another three-pointer, but Perez was good from downtown the next time down the floor to keep Albright within two points.

Widener had led by as much as eight, following a Kendall Green three-pointer with five minutes left before halftime. Sameen Swint and Evan Ward each hit two free throws in the final minutes of the first half to keep the Lions down just 33-30 at the break.

The Pride entered the contest with the nation's sixth-highest scoring offense at 94.9 ppg, but were held to just 37.7% shooting (26-of-69). Widener also shot just 56% (14-of-25) from the free throw line.

Albright improves to 3-4, 2-2 with the victory, while Widener falls to 6-3, 1-2. The Lions host Franklin & Marshall on Tuesday.
