UW-L Earns Conference Win at UW-Oshkosh

Oshkosh, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's basketball team earned a 62-54 victory at UW-Oshkosh Wednesday night in the Kolf Sports Center.  The Eagles improve to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Titans fall to 1-6 overall and 0-3 in the conference.

UW-L led throughout the first half, racing out to a 12-4 lead with 14:14 left. The Eagles led 15-11 with 7:49 remaining in the opening 20 minutes when they went on a 10-2 run to lead 25-13 with 4:03 left after a Ryan Kruser three-pointer.

The Eagles led by as many as 14 points in the first half at 29-15 before the Titans came back to cut the deficit to 29-20 at halftime.

UW-L led 44-33 with 14:04 remaining in the game after a Trent Schmidt three-pointer, but UW-Oshkosh used a 9-2 run to cut the lead to 46-42 with 11:01 left.

After the teams traded baskets to make it 48-44, the Titans went on a 8-2 run take their first lead of the game at 52-50 with 2:34 remaining.  Luke Tweed made one-of-two free throws for UW-L to cut the lead to 52-51 and after a missed UW-Oshkosh jumper, Calahan Skogman hit a three-pointer to give the Eagles a 54-52 lead with :38 left. UW-L would never trail the rest of the game.

Skylar Cameron gave UW-L a 56-52 advantage after making both free throw attempts with :27 left.  UW-Oshkosh then missed two straight shots and Cameron made two more free throws for a 58-52 advantage with :11 remaining.  After a foul by the Titans, UW-Oshkosh was called for a technical foul with :10 left.  Cameron and Clint Rihn both followed making a pair of free throws for a 62-52 lead.

UW-L shot 37.7% from the field, including 39.1% (nine-of-23) from three-point range.  The Eagles shot 72.2% (13-of-18) at the line.

Tweed led UW-L with 23 points, finishing nine-of-14 from the field, including four-of-six from three-point range. He was one-of-two at the line.  Skogman had 11 points whileLucas Collom finished with nine points and team-high seven rebounds.

UW-Oshkosh shot 26.9% from the field, including 23.1% (three-of-13) from three-point range.  The Titans shot 74.2% (23-of-31) at the line.

Jade Royston led UW-Oshkosh with 13 points while Max Schebel finished with 11 and Kyle Bolger nine.  Schebel had a game-high eight rebounds.  AJ Mueller had seven points and seven rebounds.
