Bethel rallies past Macalester 70-57

After trailing by four points (51-47 with 8:35 to play, Bethel (5-1 / 2-0 MIAC) out-scored host Macalester 23-6 the rest of the way to claim a 13-point victory in St. Paul.    The Scots played a good game most of the way and led by 10 points at 49-39 with 10:23 to play in the second half.

 

The Scots, who were going for their second straight win after topping Concordia in the league-opener, drop to 2-4 overall and 1-1 in the MIAC.  Bethel is now 5-1 on the season, 2-0 in MIAC play.  Bethel shot 42%, compared to 33% for Mac, and enjoyed an 18-12 turnover advantage and an  18-7 margin in second chance points.  The Royals led 26-12 in points in the paint and shot 88% from the free throw stripe (21-for-24).

 

Macalester scoring leader Dylan Kilgour (So., La Crescenta, Calif. / Crescenta Valley)  paced his team with 13 points.  Griffin Glatt (So., Summit, N.J. / Newark Academy) added 11 points and eight rebounds, just missing out on his fourth double-double.  Kareem Ismail (Fy., Pasadena, Calif. / Flintridge Prep) also reached double figures with 10 points to go along with six boards.  Mac assist leaders were Sager Moritzky (Fy., San Juan Capistrano, Calif. / St. Margaret's Episcopal) with five and Hans Erickson (Jr., La Crosse, Wis. / Logan) dished out four helpers.

 

Brycen Wojta points in 18 points pace the Royals.  Trevor Hall added 17 points and Kyle Zimmermann added 16.  Zimmerman blocked four shots and Wojta picked up six steals.

 

The Scots return to the court Monday (Dec. 9) when they host St. Thomas at 7:30 p.m.
