DOYLESTOWN (PA) – In his first start of the season, Delaware Valley College junior Zach Sibel hit six 3-pointers and matched his career high with 20 points as the Aggies began defense of their Freedom Conference championship with a 74-64 victory over visiting King's College.

Delaware Valley improved to 4-2 overall while the Monarchs dropped their second straight to fall to 4-2.

Sibel got the starting nod with a change in the lineup and came through as he was 6-for-9 from 3-point land and 2-for-2 from the foul line. With the performance, he equaled his scoring output from a win over Penn State-Lehigh Valley last season.

The teams were tied at 9-9 when the Aggies scored seven straight to take a lead they would not relinquish the rest of the evening. King's pulled to within two, 18-16, after Connor Hughes hit two free throws with 9:27 remaining in the first half, but Delaware Valley, behind three treys from Sibel and two dunks from sophomore forward Chris Mora, went on a 17-2 run. Sibel later hit a fourth 3-pointer in the half as the Aggies took a 40-23 lead into the break.

The Delaware Valley advantage swayed between 11 and 15 points for most of the second half. They were still up 13, 65-52, with 4:46 remaining, but King's refused to go away as an 8-0 run, including four points by Tom Heston, made it a five-point contest, 65-60 with 1:35 on the clock.

The Aggies ran the shot clock down on their next possession and Sibel drilled a huge 3-pointer with 1:04 left to push the lead back to eight. Heston hit one free throw with 43 ticks to go before the Aggies' Nick Sullivan hit all six of his free throw attempts the rest of the way, with a King's 3-pointer sandwiched in-between, for the 74-64 final.

The contest was littered with fouls as the Aggies were whistled for 30 and the Monarchs with 23. King's shot just 19-of-35 (54.3%) from the line while Delaware Valley was 22-for-27 (81.5%) for the night. Each team made 21 field goals in the game coming off of 50 attempts from King's and 49 from the Aggies.

Moran nearly had a triple-double as he finished with 12 points, nine rebounds and a career-best seven blocks (two shy of the school record). Jay Donovan shot 5-of-6 from the line and finished with 10 points while Sullivan had nine points off the bench.

King's was led by senior Kyle Hammonds who scored 19 points, including his 1,000th collegiate tally. He reached the milestone with his first of two made free throws with 10:40 remaining in the contest. Heston was next with 12 points while Joe Caffrey scored nine to go with six rebounds and four assists.
