Strong Offensive Effort Pushes @OW_Panthers Men's Hoops to 80-64 Win at Yeshiva on Opening Night of Skyline Action

NEW YORK, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's basketball team opened its Skyline Conference schedule on the road Monday evening with an 80-64 triumph over the Yeshiva Maccabees from Max Stern Athletic Center.  Old Westbury improves to 4-2 on the season while Yeshiva (1-4) dropped to 0-2 in conference action.  With the win, the Panthers won its seventh straight contest against Yeshiva dating back to November 30, 2010. 

Yeshiva held a short lived 4-0 lead to open the game before Old Westbury answered with a 27-9 run from 18:05 to 4:34 to go up for good, with a 14 point lead.  Old Westbury took a 33-22 advantage into the half. 

The Maccabees pulled within three points by using a 10-2 spurt, making it a 35-32 game 2:58 into the second half.  Old Westbury answered with an 11-2 run over the next 2:35 to build back a 12 point lead.  Yeshiva rallied to close within six points with 8:55 showing on the clock before the Panthers replied with a double-digit cushion over the final 3:10.  Old Westbury's 16 point final margin was its largest lead of the game. 

Tyrik Tucker spearheaded Old Westbury's attack with a game-high 31 points on 13-of-19 shooting from the field.  Omari Trebuseand Ray Parker joined Tucker in double figures with 11 points each.  Trebuse also produced one of his best floor games as a Panther as he dished out seven assists and committed zero turnovers in 30 minutes of action.  Mark Gjonlekaj and Gagan Singh paced the board patrol, ripping down six rebounds apiece while PJ Page rejected two shots.  Parker and Nat Vaughanalso nabbed two steals. 

Benjy Ritholtz posted a 19 point, 15 rebound double-double to lead the way for the Maccabees.  Shelby Rosenberg and Yisrael Feld followed with 15 and 14 points, respectively.  Yoni Echmann recorded three steals off the bench.

Old Westbury shot 51.9 percent shooting from the field (27-52) and held the Maccabees to 38.1 percent (24-63).  Old Westbury also connected on 35.3 percent from three-point territory (6-17) while Yeshiva hit 23.5 percent (4-17) on the other end.  Old Westbury sank 60.6 percent from the stripe (20-33) and Yeshiva hit 57.1 percent (12-21).  Old Westbury scored 18 points off 14 Maccabee miscues while Yeshiva won the boards battle, 47-32, scoring 15 second chance points off 20 offensive rebounds.     

HOME OPENER VERSUS ST. JOSEPH'S-L.I. GOLDEN EAGLES UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to the hardwood at home for the first time this season for a Skyline Conference battle against the St. Joseph's College-Long Island Golden Eagles on Wednesday (Dec. 4) in Old Westbury, New York. Opening tip is set for 6 p.m. from Clark Athletic Center.
