Manny Hernandez Nets 24 as Hornet Men Defeat Ferrum 82-70

LYNCHBURG, VA – Senior swingman Manny Hernandez delivered a game-high 24 points with eight rebounds as the Lynchburg College men's basketball team defeated Ferrum College 82-70 in non-conference action Monday evening.

The Hornets started the game strong, opening leads of 15-8 and 17-10 in the opening minutes. Ferrum finished the half on a 26-12 run to take a 36-29 advantage into intermission.

Ferrum answered an early LC second-half surge to reclaim a 54-47 lead with 12 minutes left in the contest. The Hornets surged ahead with an 11-2 run behind seven points from Austen Arnold to take a 58-56 lead. Ferrum reclaimed the lead at 68-67 with 5:22 on the game clock, but LC scored the next eight points to put the game out of reach.

Hernandez made his first 10 free throws of the contest and was 11-of-13 overall from the charity stripe. Sophomore post-man Alex Graves scored 17 points and snared a game-high 10 rebounds while Arnold finished with 12 points and five caroms.

Jamal Pullen posted a game-high 17 points for Ferrum (3-3). Brian Clarke added 14 points, six assists and five rebounds. LC held a 46-36 rebounding advantage.

The Hornets (3-1) will compete at the Gallaudet University Tournament this Friday and Saturday.
