HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. – James Livingston scored a career-high 23 points and knocked down an 18 foot jumper with 24 seconds remaining to seal a 78-72 victory for the Wesley College men's basketball team over No. 8 Hampden-Sydney on Tuesday night at Fleet Gymnasium.  The Wolverines have won four-straight games to open the season and are off to their best start in program history while the Tigers fall to 3-1.

A senior from Trenton, N.J., Livingston led all scorers while making 7-of-13 shots from the floor, three shots from behind-the-arc and all six of his free throw attempts. David Langan (14 point, 10 rebounds) and Quincy Pettiford (13 points, 11 rebounds) also contributed with double-doubles while AJ Tilghman chipped in with his second-straight double digit performance with ten points off the bench.

Trailing by five, 61-56 with 8:49 left in regulation, Langan scored eight points to lead Wesley on a 14-2 run that last four minutes and 46 seconds.  Hampden-Sydney responded, however, with five straight points to cut the deficit to a single basket with just over three minutes left to play.

That was where Livingston took over, scoring the team's final eight points to hold off the streaking Tigers.

Langan, who had made 22 straight shots from the field coming into the game, made his first shot attempt but missed his second, finishing one field goal shy of tying the NCAA Division III record for consecutive made field goals held by Mount Union's Todd Richards in the 2000 season. Richards' streak came over five games while Langan's 23 buckets were during four games.

Wesley outshot Hampden-Sydney by a narrow 46.3% to 45.9% margin and made 19-of-22 shots from the charity stripe compared to just 7-of-10 for the Tigers. Helping the Wolverines offense substantially was senior point guard Eric Selby who finished with a season-high seven assists, just one off his career-high.

Three players scored in double figures for Hampden-Sydney including Mike Murray who tallied a team-high 15.

The Wolverines, who entered the week as the top vote getter outside the Top 25, return home on Sunday, December 1, when they host York (Pa.) at 3 pm as part of a Capital Athletic Conference doubleheader.  The women's team also hosts the Spartans at 1 pm.
