DECORAH, Iowa (November 25, 2013) - The plan could very well have been to foul the freshman to see what he does. What UW-Stout freshman Brett Ahsenmacher did was sink five of six free throws in the final 23 seconds of the overtime period to lead the Blue Devils to an 88-83 win Monday.

Free throws played a key role in Stout's (3-1) overtime win. Adam Wadzinski (Sr, Verona) drained a pair of throws to stretch Stout's lead to three points, 83-80, with 39 seconds remaining in the extra period. Seconds later, Wadzinski stole the ball and dished it off to Ashenmacher, who was promptly fouled.

Ahsenmacher hit both attempts to give Stout an 85-80 lead with 23 seconds left. Luther's Bradley Wilkins nailed a 3-pointer to move the score to 85-83. Ahsenmacher went on to hit three of his next four free throw attempts. A 3-pointer by Luther fell short and Stout had the win.

The Blue Devils had to fight back to send the game into overtime. Stout led by three at halftime, but the Norse took the lead and held as much as a 10 point lead before the Blue Devils came back.

Jimmy Whitehead (Sr, La Crosse) pulled Stout to within one point, 69-68, with 32 seconds left in regulation. Luther's Jake Martin made it a three point lead, 71-68, with 15 seconds remaining. Whitehead hit a 3-pointer with four seconds left to send the game into overtime.

Whitehead finished with a game-high 24 points. Aaron Jenny (Sr, Spicer, Minn) added 17 points, making all nine of his free throw attempts. Ahsenmacher, in addition to his five free throws, connected on three 3-pointers and finished the night with 14 points. Alex Oman (Sr, Lake Elmo, Minn) and Josh Kosloske (Sr, Oakfield) each had 11 points.

Martin led Luther with 20 points. John Androus dropped in 17 points, as did Wilkins. Cale Austin added 13 points.

Stout won this game at the line, making 27-of-34 charity shots. Luther was 9-of-12 from the line.

Stout will host the UW-Stout Thanksgiving Turkey Shootout, Saturday, Nov. 30 and Sunday, Dec. 1. Stout will play Ashford University Saturday and Wartburg College Sunday.
