Pioneers tame Lions, 97-64

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's basketball team opened the second half with a 19-5 run to surge past Indiana-Dabney, 97-64, on the first day of the Gabe Miller Tip-Off Classic on Bo Ryan Court. 

The Pioneers had six players score in double figures, led by junior Jim Stocki with a career-high 22 points. Stocki went 8-for-14 from the field and added a career-best eight rebounds. SophomoreBoston Johnson scored a career-best 14 points while shooting 50 percent (5-10) from the floor.  Junior Wes Nemitz and sophomore Peyton River each recorded a career-best 13 points. SeniorsChas Cross and Eric "Skip" Gerber netted 12 and 11 points respectively. 

The Lions were led by William Holloway with a game-high 23 points, followed by Anthony Harris with 16 points. 

Dabney played even with the Pioneers for the first 12 minutes of the game, but a 14-3 run gave the Pioneers a 37-25 lead with 5:47 till halftime. UW-Platteville went into the break with a 51-41 lead and shot an impressive 58.6 percent for the half. 

The Pioneers' 19-5 run to open the second half pushed their lead to 24 points, 70-46, with just over 13 minutes to play. Nemitz nailed a three-pointer out of the final media timeout to give the Pioneers their biggest lead of the game, 93-60.

The Pioneers will finish the Gabe Miller Tip-Off Classic on Saturday at 7 p.m. versus Olivet College.
