CASTINE, Maine -- Maine-Presque Isle used a late second half scoring run, to break a 41-41 deadlock, en route to a 65-58 win over Maine Maritime in a non-conference men's basketball game Wednesday. The Owls improved to 1-0, while the Mariners dropped to 0-3.

Tyler Chiasson netted a team-high 13 points for Maine Maritime and Jason Hatch and Garrett Libby both netted 11. Chiasson added a team-best seven rebounds.

Thiago Conceicao recorded a double-double for Presque Isle with game-highs in points (19) and rebounds (11). Michael Warner also recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 boards and Chase Vicaire posted 12 points for UMPI.

Evened at 8-8 after a Ryan Backus free throw early in the first half, the teams traded scores before Dylan Price's jumper at 8:26 put the Mariners ahead 18-16. Maine Maritime led 25-20 after Zach Radcliffe's jay at 3:40 and led 29-24 when Hatch connected on jump shot with 1:21 left in the opener. Warners's jump shot for UMPI made it 29-26 at the break.

Tied a 41-41, with 10:43 left in the game, the Owls used a 12-1 scoring run to lead 53-42 with 7:36 left in the game. Hatch got the Mariners within five, 59-54, with 1:29 left in the game before UMPI connected on 6 of 8 shots from the stripe in the final 35 seconds to ice the game.

Maine Maritime returns to action Friday, 7 p.m., hosting Maine-Machias.
