GENEVA, N.Y.—Junior guard Connor Rehbaum and senior forward Richie Bonney notched double-doubles to lead the Hobart College basketball team to an 83-73 victory over the University of Rochester in Bristol Gym tonight. It's the Statesmen's first win over the Yellowjackets since Dec. 11, 2010, and the first home win over UR since Jan. 16, 2001.

Rehbaum exploded for a career-high 29 points, 10 rebounds and a career-high two blocked shots. He made career highs from beyond the arc (7-of-10) and at the line (8-12). Hobart's leading scorer a year ago, Bonney picked up right where he left off, finishing with 23 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Senior guard Joe Gibbons added 12 points and a career-high six assists and junior guard Trey Blanding chipped in 10 points and a game-high matching six assists.

Rochester, which led by as many as 15 as late as 15:04 left in the second half, got team-highs of 19 points and nine rebounds from junior center Tyler Sankes. Senior forward Nate Vernon contributed 16 points and a team-high five assists.

After trading buckets early in the contest, the Yellowjackets (1-2) used a 23-6 run that stretched from the 13:47 mark of the first half to just 2:10 remained. Hobart (1-0) got just two field goals during that stretch, a triple by Rehbaum and a layup by Gibbons. Sankes and junior guard Kevin Sheehy paced UR with six points apiece as the visitors took a 43-30 lead into halftime.

Rochester shot 50 percent from the floor, including 5-of-8 from 3-point range, in the opening 20 minutes, while the Statesmen shot just 34.5 percent from the floor (3-of-11 from 3). Those roles were reversed after the intermission as Hobart shot 59.3 percent in the second half and the Yellowjackets manage just 25.8 percent.

Sankes converted a traditional 3-point play with 15:04 left in the game, giving the Yellowjackets a 54-39 lead. Over the next 9:45 UR's shooters went stone cold. During that time frame, Hobart outscored Rochester 27-8— with all eight UR points coming at the free throw line—as the Statesmen took a 66-62 lead. Rehbaum led the charge with three of Hobart's five 3-pointers during the run. Bonney and first-year guard Pete Drescher hit the other two 3s.

Vernon snapped UR's drought to make it a 2-point game. Drescher answered with another triple that was countered by Kyle Reardon's 3 at the other end of the floor to make it 69-67 Hobart. Rehbaum followed with 3-pointers on consecutive trips down the floor to stretch the Statesmen lead to 75-69 and over the last three minutes of the game Hobart was able to keep Rochester at arm's length to earn its first win of the year.

The Statesmen will be back in action at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 22 when Ithaca visits Bristol Gym. The Yellowjackets stay on the road, making the cross-town trip to Nazareth on Saturday, Nov. 23. That game also tips off at 7 p.m.
