Giants Move to 2-0 With 96-84 Win Over Hamilton

La Plume, PA – Duncan Lunsford (Marietta, GA/Sprayberry) scored a game-high 28 points and finished the game with a double-double to lead Keystone College to a 96-84 victory over Hamilton College in non-conference men's basketball action on Saturday afternoon in the Gambal Athletic Center.  The Giants improve to 2-0 on the young season with the win while the Continentals fall to 1-1 on the year.    
 
In a see-saw opening 11:39, the two teams would swap the lead nine times, with Keystone going in front for good with 8:21 remaining in the period when Dan Candemeres (Holbrook, NY/Sachem East) scored on a layup which started an 8-2 run by the Giants that saw them extend their lead to 34-27 with 5:52 left.  Trailing 46-40 with 34 seconds left in the half, the Continentals scored five points capped by a buzzer-beating three-pointer by Matt Hart to cut their deficit to 46-45 heading into the locker room. 
 
Lunsford led Keystone with 16 points and five rebounds in the opening half while Candemeres added 10 points for the Giants, who shots 54.3 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes of playing including six three-pointers.
 
Hart paced Hamilton with 14 points and five boards as the visitors hit on 52.9 percent of their field goal chances while going 5-10 from beyond the arc.
 
The Continentals forged the game into a 49-49 tie 2:20 into the second half before Jesse Longmire (Harlem, NY/John S. Burke Catholic) hit a trey to start a key, 12-0 run by the Giants that pushed their lead to 61-49 with 15:29 to play.  Hamilton scored the game's next six points and eventually narrowed their deficit to 68-64 with 9:43 showing on the clock before Keystone was able to extend their lead to as many as 12 points over the next six minutes.  The visitors would come now closer than with seven points down the stretch as Keystone notched their second-straight win to start the season.
 
Lunsford's game-high 28 points came on 10-15 shooting from the field and a perfect, 5-5 day at the free throw line.  The junior forward finished with a double-double after tying for a game with 10 rebounds while leading all players with six assists in the win.  Candemeres finished with 22 points and six rebounds while Longmire added 14 points for the Giants, who shot 53.1 percent from the floor for the game, 38.7 percent from beyond the arc, and 80 percent from the free throw line.
 
Hart's 19 points led four Hamilton players in double-figures, with Greg Newton adding 18 points.  Bradley Gifford finished with a double-double on 17 points and 10 rebounds while Joseph Lin added 10 points in the loss.  The Continentals finished the afternoon shooting 47.8 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from three-point range, and 91.7 percent from the stripe.
 
Keystone will return to action on Tuesday evening when they visit Franklin & Marshall College in a non-conference game.  Tipoff between the Giants and Diplomats is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Lancaster, PA.
