Warhawks Open Season with Win over Carroll

The most decisive advantage for UW-W came from the free throw line. The Warhawks hit 21-30 and Carroll was just 9-18 from the charity stripe. Whitewater held a 31-24 advantage on the boards and forced 17 turnovers in the win.

The Pioneers never led in the game but knotted the score 5-5 at the 16:38 on a three-pointer by Kevin Hurd. From that point on the Warhawk defense shut Carroll down while the offense consistently extended the lead through the first half. The margin hit double figures at the 7:49 mark after Eric Bryson's layup gave UW-W a 22-11 lead. Cody Odegaard gave Whitewater the largest lead of the half, 15, with just ten seconds remaining converting an offensive rebound into the final points of the half. The Warhawks went into the locker room with a 35-20 lead.

UW-W posted 20 points in the paint and 14 off turnovers in the first twenty minutes compared a combined total of 12 for Carroll.

An 8-2 run midway throught the second half cut the margin to nine, 41-32 at the 11:24 mark. The Warhawks scored the next nine points to push the lead up to 19, 51-32 with 7:07 remaining in the game. The lead hovered around 20 for the remainder of the half with Alex LeGault providing the final margin on a layup with 25 seconds left, 60-38.

KJ Evans led all players with 14 points on 5-7 from the field and 4-6 from the free throw line. Quardell Young and Reggie Hearn joined him in double figures with 11 and 10 points respectively. Bryson tied for game high honors on the boards with six. 

The Warhawks will host Concordia University (Wis.) Monday, November 18 at 7:00 in Kachel Gym.
