Men's Basketball Falls to CCNY

New York, N.Y- The John Jay men's basketball team fell short Wednesday in a conference match-up against the City College of New York (CCNY), losing to the Beavers 71-68.

With the loss, the Bloodhounds fall to 11-7(7-2 CUNYAC), while CCNY improves to 6-11 (2-7 CUNYAC).

Isaiah Holman reached a milestone despite the loss. With 11:52 to go in the first half, the senior scored his 1,000 career point as a Bloodhound. Holman came up big for John Jay overall scoring 30 points, wish now leaves him with 1,027 in his career.  Jamar Harry added 11 points on the game, leaving him just 19 points shy of 1,000.

CCNY was led by Terrence Johnston and Jordan Ortega who both scored 30 points, with a combined seven steals.

The Bloodhounds held the lead for the whole first half, but with 6:30 left in the second half, Johnston hit a jumper tying the game at 62. The Beavers took the lead with 5:36 left on a layup by Anthony Stevens. John Jay tied the score again with 1:42 remaining on a jumper by Holman, which made it 67-67. Holman then put John Jay back up by a point after a free throw with 1:08 remaining.

CCNY finally took the lead again with thirteen seconds remaining on two free throws by Jordan Ortega, which made the score 71-68. The Beavers held the lead for the remainder of the game.

The Bloodhounds return to action on Fri., January 25 at Baruch College at 7:30pm.
