Harry Nets 1,000th in Loss at Baruch

NEW YORK, N.Y.— John Jay men's basketball player Jamar Harry became the eleventh player in team history to net 1,000 points, but it came in a losing cause as the Bloodhounds lost at Baruch College 89-75 at Baruch Friday evening.
 
The loss is John Jay's third straight, and second in a row against conference teams. The Bloodhounds are now 11-8 (7-3 CUNYAC) this season, while Baruch is now 12-6 (8-2 CUNYAC).
 
Harry, who needed 19 points to reach the milestone, scored a team-high 26, with five assists and six steals. Korede Griffith had 16 points and seven steals, while Darryl Dennis had 13 points and six rebounds.
 
Harry started out with a quiet first half scoring four points through the first twenty minutes. He was held scoreless in the game until the final 1:19 of the period when he made back-to-back field goals. His nineteenth point of the game, and 1,000th of his career, came at the 6:11 mark of the second half on a lay-up.
 
Baruch was led by Granville Gittens with 29 points, including 15-for-15 from the free throw line, helping the host Bearcats to 84.1 percent from the foul line (37-for-44). John Jay went to the line half the number of times and shot 14-for-22 from the charity stripe (63.6 percent).
 
The Bloodhounds opened the game taking a huge lead early.  John Jay started the game all over Baruch, racing out to a 22-7 lead with eight minutes gone by. The opening run was capped by a dunk by Oshea Alexander. But the lead quickly evaporated as the Bearcats outscored John Jay 35-12 over the final twelve minutes to take the lead and draw distance as Baruch led 42-34 at halftime.
 
Baruch opened the second half with an 18-9 run to extend the lead to 17 as the Bearcats were up 60-43 with 10:52 to play.
 
John Jay pulled to within a few as six points later in the period but no closer.
