Charney Guides Panthers to Third 20 Win Season in Four Years

Purchase, NY (Feb. 18, 2013) – Purchase head coach Jeff Charney has won two championship rings, secured three Skyline Conference Tournament appearances, enjoyed back-to-back trips to March Madness, and can now add another milestone to his resume after Saturday's overwhelming win over SJC-LI.

Charney, a coaching legend in Westchester at both the high school and college levels, has skipped the Panthers to three 20 win seasons in four full years, including two regular-season 20 win campaigns. In the process, Purchase has established itself as one of the premier DIII programs in the Northeast under his leadership. Purchase reached the league final for a third straight year last winter, but came up short against FSC after winning consecutive tournament crowns in each of the two previous seasons, punching a ticket to the NCAA's.

Charney took over a program five years ago midseason that went from three to 15 wins in his first full year. Within two full seasons, the Panthers were Skyline champions. The next season, Purchase won 20 regular-season games – a first in the program's return to the NCAA – taking another league crown and heading back to the NCAA tournament again. Along the way, the program has received numerous honors, both individually and as a team.

No. 2 seeded Purchase, which has enjoyed another special campaign, winning tournaments at Springfield and Regis earlier in the year, will look to make it four straight trips to the championship game Thursday night, when they host the league semifinal.
