Reading, Pa. (Jan. 23, 2013) - Junior forward Brian Parker (Chichester, Pa./Chichester) matched a career high with 23 points leading Alvernia University to 73-71 overtime victory over Lycoming College on Wednesday evening in Commonwealth Conference men's basketball action at the Physical Education Center.

Sophomore Lamont Clark (Parkesburg, Pa./Octorara Area) scored four of the Crusaders' 11 overtime points and finished with a career high 21. Clark hit two free throws to put the home team ahead by four at the midway point over the extra frame.  Jerald Williams hit one of two free throws to cut the gap to three and Alvernia junior Chris Davis (Norristown, Pa./Norristown) had a 3 all but down that would have doubled the lead, but it popped out and Anthony Martin scored on a put-back at the other end to pull the Warriors within one, 69-68 with 1:37 to go.

Clark then scored on a driving layup and Kahlil Bennett (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) knocked down a baseline jumper for a 5-point Alvernia lead.  The Crusader defense lost an assignment on Rob Pillow IV who checked in for the first time with 1:06 left in OT and he burried a 3 from the corner to cut the gap to two with 25 seconds left.

Alvernia was forced to use a time out on the ensuing inbound attempt then had the ball poked out of bounds twice by the Warriors before Williams stripped a ball off Bennett to force a turnover with 18 seconds left.  Martin had a short jumper bounce off the rim, but Parker couldn't secure the rebound and the Warriors had one final shot trailing by two.  Williams took the inbounds pass in the backcourt with eight seconds to go, dribbled across mid court, and hoisted up a 25-footer that bounced off the backboard and rim into the hands of Terrance Bridgers (Drexel Hill, Pa./Upper Darby) right before the final horn.

Martin scored 11 of his game high 25 in the first half building the Warriors lead.  After entering the second half trailing by seven, the Crusaders didn't gain the lead until a Parker layup put them in front, 55-53 with just 4:15 to play. When a dunk by Lycoming's William Wingate tied the game,  Clark answered the bell with two clutch free throws to pull his team ahead. Seconds later Martin hit a bucket to re-tie the game at 62-all. With time winding down Bennett attempted to win the game, but his jump shot from 15-feet was just off line sending the game to overtime.

Alvernia was led offensively by the junior forward Parker, who finished by matching his career high 23 points and adding 13 rebounds. It was Parker's eighth double-double of the year.

Other notable contributions were Bennett who finished with 14 and Bridgers who scored eight and had 10 rebounds.

Although the Crusaders trailed the majority of the game, they were able to claw back from their deficit to pull out the win. The Crusaders played lock down defense and were able to generate turnovers and shut down the potent Lycoming offense.

The first place Crusaders return to action on Saturday when they travel to take on Stevenson University. Following the Stevenson game, they return home looking to remain hot as they face cross town rival Albright College.
