Elizabethtown (Jan. 12, 2013) - Junior Brian Parker (Chichester, Pa./Chichester) led four players in double figures with a game-high 16 points leading Alvernia University (10-3, 5-2) to a 78-57 win over Elizabethtown College (4-9, 2-6) Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Conference men's basketball action at Thompson Gymnasium.
Parker converted a 3-point play early in the first half that sparked a 10-0 run and the Crusaders never looked back.
Parker finished off his seventh double-double of the season with 10 rebounds in just 18 minutes. Kahlil Bennett (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) scored 14 points and Lamont Clark(Parkesburg, Pa./Octorara) and Josh Vargas (Allentown, Pa./Faith Christian Academy) scored 11 points apiece.
Alvernia got it done on defense in the first half holding Etown to 15 points while building a 22-point lead. It's the second time this season the Crusaders have held an opponent to 15 points over the opening 20 minutes. They did the same to St. Joe's (L.I.) in a 29-point win in the championship game of the Scranton Tournament.
Alvernia improves to 4-0 this season when it holds an opponent under 60 points.
Alvernia could be in a tie for first place depeding on the outcome of Lycoming's game at Stevenson.
