Oberlin, Ohio – Senior Andrew Fox was sent off in style as the Oberlin College men's basketball team outlasted the Hiram Terriers, 59-50, on Wednesday night at Philips Gym.
Oberlin had four of five starters finish in double figures with junior Geoff Simpson leading the way with a game-high 18 points to go along with eight rebounds. Fox recorded his 10th double-double of the year with 13 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. The backcourt tandem of Austin Little and Emmanuel Lewis also combined for 24 points with 14 coming off of the right hand of Little.
The Terriers built up an 15-8 at lead in the early going, but the Yeomen would even score at 19 following a Little triple-hit with 7:06 left in the half. Later in the frame Little would convert a 4-point play after taking some contact, but still depositing the long ball from the top of the key. The play tied the scored at 23 and the Yeomen eventually took a slight 26-25 lead into the locker room.
In the second half the Yeomen stepped up their defensive pressure even more as they held the Terriers to just five points through the first 14 minutes of the session. Meanwhile, they were able to extend their lead out to 17, 47-30, with 6:21 left to play. However, Hiram was able to fight its way back into the game, shrinking the Yeomen lead down to seven, 50-43, at the 4:10 mark. With less than a minute to play, the Terriers would get within six, 54-48, following a pair of Josh Edmondson free throws, but the Yeomen would cash in 5-of-6 free throws down to the stretch to preserve the win.
Hiram had three players finish in double figures with Edmondson leading the attack with 15 points off the bench. Riley Moore, who is graduate of nearby Midview High School and native of Grafton, Ohio, added 14 in the loss.
Oberlin shot 39.5-percent from the floor, making 17-of-43 attempts on the night. The Yeomen's stifling defense held Hiram to just 32.7-percent (18-of-55) from the floor.
Both teams now sit at 5-10 in the conference, tied for the final spot in the NCAC Tournament. Oberlin travels to Wabash on Saturday afternoon for the final game of the regular season, while Hiram hosts Wittenberg.Box Score
