Mount Aloysius scored the go ahead basket with 16 seconds left, avoiding a late-game collapse, and the Mounties defeated the Pitt-Bradford men's basketball team 69-65 Saturday.

It was the Panthers' third straight loss and pushed them dangerously closer to missing the AMCC postseason tournament altogether. With three games left in the regular season, they are just 5-10 in the league.

Mount Aloysius was seemingly in control, leading by as much as 11 with 6:55 remaining, before squandering its advantage in the final minute. The Panthers only made seven field goals in the second half, but went 21-26 from the line to claw back.

Pitt-Bradford cut the deficit to three with 1:53 left on four straight free throws by Tyler Ferguson and Keith Burgess. Jeff Stem sank two free throws of his own to push the lead back to five at 65-60 on the ensuing possession. Ferguson responded with two more free throws and after a turnover, Jesse DeLoof scored in transition and was fouled in the process. His free throw with 28 seconds remaining capped the three-point play and evened the score at 65-all.

Out of a timeout, the Panthers elected to show full-court pressure and Dameon Turner took the inbounds pass at half-court, driving to the basket for an easy lay-in for the go ahead basket. Lucas Pichette missed a shot in the lane on the other end, and Stem iced with game at the line with two shots.

Pitt-Bradford led by as much as 10 in the early going, opening the game on 14-4 run. The Mounties scored nine straight points to pull within one and went ahead on Kyle Baughman's two free throws at the 5:20 mark of the first half. They eventually led 34-30 at the break and scored six straight at one point in the second half to push their advantage to double-digits.

The Mounties outmuscled the Panthers inside, scoring 36 points in the paint and 14 second-chance points. Mount Aloysius shot 43 percent from the field, was 20-30 from the line and scored 19 points off 14 Pitt-Bradford turnovers.

The Panthers hit on 39 percent of their attempts and were just 2-11 from long-range. They were outrebounded by 10 and gave up 16 offensive rebounds.

Ferguson finished with a game-high 19 points and seven boards, and Burgess added 18 points, including going 10-10 from the line. DeLoof totaled 11 points as the rest of the team combined for 17 points.

Pitt-Bradford drops to 10-12 on the season and will return home Monday for the start of a three-game homestand to end the season against D'Youville.
