YORK, Pa. - Junior Eric Selby scored a career-high 20 points to lift the Wesley College men's basketball team to a 69-61 win at Capital Athletic Conference rival York (Pa.) on Saturday afternoon. The Wolverines (19-5, 9-2 CAC) have now matched a program-record for wins in a season while the Spartans fall to 7-16 overall and 2-8 in league play.
A native of Wilmington, Del., Selby shot 8-of-12 from the floor with four three-pointers on the day. He got help from fellow Wilmington native, Paul Reynolds, who added 18 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double, as well as a game-high six assists.
Wayne Lennon also went for double figures with 13 points with three baskets from long range while going 4-of-4 from the charity stripe.
Wesley led the entire game, but the victory did not come easy against a smaller, scrappy Spartans squad. The Wolverines led by as many as ten in the first half, but the Spartans closed to within one by halftime.
York made a free throw to open the second half and tying the game at 36, but the Wolverines quickly got the lead back to double digits with four points from Reynolds, followed by five from Selby and a layup by Rasheed Carter.
The Spartans once again fought back valiantly and closed to within three with 6:24 remaining. Reynolds stopped the bleeding with a three just seconds later. After a pair of Spartan free throws cut the deficit to 61-57 in favor of Wesley with just over five minutes left, he Wolverines closed out the game by making six straight free throws to seal the victory.
Salisbury visits Dover on Saturday, February 16, at 4 pm in the regular season finale for both teams.
