YORK, PA  - The York College men's basketball team did what they have done all season. They battled a deep and talented Wesley College Wolverine squad only to fall just short at the end as the Wolverines escaped York with a 69-61 Capital Athletic Conference win on Saturday in York.

The Wolverines improve to 19-5 overall and 9-2 in the CAC while the Green and White falls to 7-16 overall and 2-8 in the league. York has now dropped five straight overall and six straight league contests.

The Wolverines came out of the game looking to put the Spartans away early. Wesley seized an early 14-5 lead as they had it going from distance with back-to-back threes from Eric Selby and Wayne Lennon. The Spartans got a three pointer from senior guard Julian Watson (Odenton, Md./Arundel) that stemmed the tide, allowing York to regain their footing. The Spartans drew to within two on a Jeremy Skoloda (Leola, Pa./Conestoga Valley) three at the 12:08 mark but the Wolverines answered with a 14-6 run that pushed their lead to a half-high 10 points with 7:39 remaining in the half.

York scored nine of the next 11 points of the game to pull to within three as Skoloda hit a second three at the 4:29 mark. Lennon answered with another triple as the Wolverines maintained the lead. The Spartans cut their deficit to one at the half but the Green and White could have had the lead had they been able to be better at the free throw line. York went just 4-for-8 from the stripe over the final two minutes of the half as they went to the locker room down 36-35.

The Spartans tied the game just 19 seconds into the second half as Watson split a pair of free throws. However Wesley went on an 11-1 run to forge a 47-37 lead as the Wolverines again looked poised to make the game lopsided.

The Green and White kept the Wolverines from running away with the contest as they cut their deficit to four on a Watson lay up at the 14:31 mark. The Wolverines maintained their lead between four and eight points over the next eight minutes before Skoloda cut the lead to three on his third three-pointer of the day with 6:24 left.

The Spartans would then go ice cold from the field as they scored just six points after Skoloda's triple while Wesley made enough plays to hold off the Green and White.

Eric Selby led the Wolverines with a team-high 20 points, as he was 8-for-12 from the field and 4-for-7 from three. Senior Paul Reynolds registered a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds while the forward also dished out six assists in 39 minutes of work. Lennon was the third Wolverine in double figures with 13 points on 3-of-5 shooting from three and a 4-for-4 performance from the stripe.

Senior Todd Maciejewski (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) paced the Spartans with 20 points on a blistering 7-for-8 performance from the field. He also went 6-for-10 from the free throw line. Maciejewski pulled in seven rebounds, had three assists, and three blocked shots for York. Watson added 17 points in his 38 minutes of play. Watson was 5-for-9 from the floor with a three while he also went 6-for-10 from the line. Skoloda was the third Spartan in double figures with 12 points while he also had four rebounds. Junior Brandon Enck (Quarryville, Pa./Solanco) pulled in nine rebounds while he also had four points and two steals.

The Spartans finished the game shooting 42.2% after converting 50% of their attempts in the first half. York went 4-for-18 from three while the Wolverines made 10-of-27 from distance. Wesley finished the game shooting 45.1% from floor.

York held a slight 34-32 edge in rebounding. Wesley forced 14 turnovers and they made them hurt, converting those miscues into 21 points.

The Spartans return to action on Wednesday in their final regular season road trip of the year when they travel to the University of Mary Washington to face the Eagles. Tip time in Fredericksburg, Virginia is slated for 8:00 pm.
