HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA - The #17 Hampden-Sydney Basketball team made quick work of the Bridgewater College Eagles on Saturday afternoon, winning 95-49. H-SC stands at 21-2, 13-1 ODAC while Bridgewater is 13-10, 7-7 ODAC. The win by the Tigers and the Virginia Wesleyan win atGuilford College today sets up a battle for first place in the ODAC when VWC comes to town on Wednesday at 7 pm for a blackout game.
The game was tied at 2-2 after the first three possessions, but the game was never close after that. H-SC led 11-2 less than four minutes in and didn't allow Bridgewater to reach double digits until there was 4:08 left in the first half. The Eagles were limited to just 16 points in the opening stanza, setting the season-lowest mark for opponent points in a half previously set twice at 17, once against Randolph-Macon and once againstMarygrove. The 49 points is also the third fewest allowed this season. The Tigers would go on to lead by as many as 50 points in the second-half.
Harrison George (Raleigh, NC / Leesville Road) posted a game-high 20 points, making 8-of-13 field goal attempts including a 2-of-2 mark from beyond the arc. He also contributed four rebounds and three assists. Kodie Critzer (Charlottesville, VA / St. Anne's-Belfield) continued his hot shooting, burying 5-of-7 three-pointers for 15 points along with two rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Keegan Wetzel (Mebane, NC / Eastern Alamance) scored 10 points, going 3-6 overall and 2-4 from three range while also adding on two steals and a block. Khobi Williamson (Norfolk, VA / Maury) contributed eight points and 10 boards while Leon Hargrove (Raleigh, NC / Middle Creek) tacked on six points, four caroms, four assists, and two thefts. Patrick Corrigan (Richmond, VA / Collegiate) totaled eight points, three helpers, and two rebounds.
Aaron Adams was the lone double-digit scorer for Bridgewater with 10 points off the bench.
H-SC shot 52.7% (36-67) for the game, a sizzling 52% (13-25) from three point range, and 83.3% (10-12) at the free throw line. Bridgewater was held to a measly 33.3% (16-48) output, 11.1% (1-9) from deep, and 64% (16-25) at the charity stripe. H-SC held a 38-30 rebounding advantage, led in assists 22-7, and forced 21 BC turnovers compared to just seven of their own. Hampden-Sydney turned those 21 turnovers into 26 points.
