Hampden-Sydney Hoops Sweeps Randolph-Macon

ASHLAND, VA - Hampden-Sydney defeated Randolph-Macon 66-47 to sweep the season series for the first time since the 2003-04 season. The win also marks the first 20-win season since the ODAC Championship season of 2004. Hampden-Sydney improves to 20-2 overall, 12-1 ODAC while Randolph-Macon goes to 13-9, 8-5 ODAC.

Randolph-Macon got off to a quick start and led 7-4 four minutes in, but the game changed from there. Cam Anderson (Charlottesville, VA / Blue Ridge) grabbed an offensive rebound and layed it back in and then Greg Lewis (Mechanicsville, VA / Hanover) scored a layup in transition to give the Tigers an 8-7 advantage with 15:08 to go. Harrison George (Raleigh, NC / Leesville Road) then converted a layup and drained a three-pointer from the top of the arc to put H-SC ahead 13-7 at 13:26. Following six more Hampden-Sydney points to end a 14-0 run in just over eight minutes, Hampden-Sydney was on top 19-7.

Lamar Giggets scored four of the next six points in the game, but H-SC continued to pour on the points, utilizing an 11-2 spurt to go ahead 32-13 with 2:41 left in the half. Andre Simon and Connor Sullivan contributed the last four points of the stanza to makie it a 32-17 game at intermission.

Randolph-Macon came out of halftime fired up on both ends of the court. Hampden-Sydney recorded a turnover on its first three possessions, resulting in a layup from Giggetts and a dunk and layup from Dylan Cole to trim the lead down to single digits, 32-23, less than two minutes in. George got the Tigers on board with a layup, but the Yellow Jackets continued to stifle the Hampden-Sydney offense and made it just a 35-29 game with 12:55 to go.

The H-SC offense woke up after that with a Lewis three pointers. Trent Walker responded with a jumper, but a Leon Hargrove (Raleigh, NC / Middle Creek) dunk helped ignite an 11-0 Tiger run to put H-SC up 49-31 at the 8:56 mark. The game was over from that point as H-SC went on to lead by as many as 26 points.

George had a game-high 18 points along with a team-best eight rebounds. Lewis posted 14 points with three rebounds while Kodie Critzer(Charlottesville, VA / St. Anne's-Belfield) posted 12 points on 4-6 shooting from three. Khobi Williamson (Norfolk, VA / Maury) tacked on eight points and four rebounds, and Anderson added six points and seven rebounds. Mike Murray (Norfolk, Va / Norfolk Christian) handed out a game-high six assists.

Gigggetts and Simon led R-MC with 10 points each while Simon had nine boards.

Hampden-Sydney shot 23-54 for the game, 7-17 from three, and 13-19 at the free throw line. Randolph-Macon was 19-53 overall, 2-14 from three range, and 7-14 at the charity stripe. H-SC held a 41-29 advantage on the boards.
