Brodt’s Block Party, Heiss’ Sharpshooting Leads Beavers Past Lightning

NEW YORK – Zachary Heiss finished with a game-high 16 points, including three jumpers from three-point range, Guilherme Brodt was a human highlight reel, swatting away six shots and Jordan Ortega recorded his fifth double-double of the season with 11 points and 12 rebounds as the City College of New York (10-13, 6-9 CUNYAC) posted its third consecutive conference victory and defeated Lehman College (7-16, 2-12 CUNYAC), 57-44, on Wednesday evening at Nat Holman Gymnasium.

Heiss got off to a fast start and was 3-of-5 from long distance, recording 11 points in the first half. Nathan Lopez provided a spark off of the bench and added five first-half points as the Beavers entered the half with a 26-21 lead.

CCNY pulled away with the victory in the second half, led by Brodt's five blocks and Paul Dail's three steals. Dail, who entered tonight's contest fifth in the nation in assists/game and 14th in steals/game, dished out nine assists and added five steals in the victory. The Beavers held the Lightning to 26 percent shooting from the field in the second-half and 13 percent from long distance.

CCNY heads to Yeshiva University on Saturday, Feb. 9 as tip-off is slated for 8:30 p.m., weather permitting.
