CCNY Homecoming a Huge Success

NEW YORK – The Fourth Annual City College of New York Alumni Day was a rousing success and capped off with a CCNY men's basketball victory over City University of New York Athletic Conference foe Hunter College on Saturday.

Floyd Layne – member of the 1949-50 NCAA and NIT Championship team, the only team in history to win both the NCAA and NIT Championships in the same season, was on hand for the many festivities held on February 2.

With many of the CCNY titles on display for the hundreds of alums, City College and Fish Bait Marketing had one more surprise under their sleeve as a portrait of legendary Hall of Fame coach Nat Holman was unveiled at halftime of the men's basketball contest.

Throughout the evening, many of the athletic programs held their alumni game and none was more competitive than the annual men's and women's basketball alumni day contest. With Athletic Director and women's basketball head coach Jackee Meadow on the mic and men's basketball assistant coach Kennard Robinson and assistant women's basketball coach Rynae Rasley up against men's head coach Tom Green and assistant women's basketball coach Jennifer Czirr, the game went to coach Green on a pair of late free-throws as Czirr and many former players won the contest by one point.

Many raffle prizes were up for grabs, including tickets to a New York Yankees game against either the Boston Red Sox or the New York Mets, two St. John's men's basketball tickets to any game at Madison Square Garden, a complete CCNY sweat suit and more were given away.

A half court shootout competition was also a hit with fans as a former men's basketball player hit the half-court shot and won $250 to be donated to the athletic department, courtesy of 1976 CCNY graduate and former baseball player, Anthony Belli. Several Beavers also competed in the NCAA Shootout Competition, giving players 75 seconds to make as many shots as possible from six different locations on the court.

Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing Jamie Angeli also held the Beaver Lounge Promotion and the Delta Paper Plan Contest, showing once again, why no matter how long ago you attended CCNY, you will always "bleed purple".
