Cortland Drives Past Buffalo State, 88-72

BUFFALO, NY— Cortland (17-3/11-2) used a big run in the first half to pull past host Buffalo State (12-7/7-6) for an 88-72 victory in a SUNYAC game today at the Sports Arena.

Roderick Epps (Uniondale/Uniondale) led Buffalo State with 19 points, and Jake Simmons (Rochester/School of the Arts) scored 18.  Chris Castren (Voorheesville/Voorheesville) had a career-best 11 points, and Seth Runge (Springville/Springville GI) had nine points and eight rebounds.

Buffalo State jumped out to an early eight-point lead, but Cortland roared back with a 22-4 run to take control and led 48-35 at the intermission.  The Bengals never cut the deficit to fewer than nine points in the second half.

Cortland shot 54-percent from the field for the game and outscored Buffalo State 24-12 from 3-point range.  The Red Dragons also converted 21 Buffalo State turnovers into 30 points. 

Buffalo State will travel to New Paltz next Friday at 8 p.m.
