Macalester shot 58% in the opening period and led 40-31 at halftime, but Hamline came out hot in the second half and held off the Scots for a 73-67 MIAC victory at HU's Hutton Arena. The Pipers out-scored the Scots 24-8 over the first 8:20 of the second stanza and for the half shot 57% to complete the comeback.
Three Scots reached double digits in the scoring column, led by Samson Bialostok (So., North Woodmere, N.Y. / Lawrence) with 14 points to go along with six assists and five rebounds. He's tallied 14 points in each of the last two games. Bert Yaffe (So., Bethesda, Md. / Walter Johnson) was good on 3-of-6 from three-point range and finished with 13 points and a career-high six assists. Joining Bialostok and Yaffe in double figures was Sam Marshall (Sr., Sun Prairie, Wis.) with 10 points to go with eight boards, three assists and a couple steals.
Chipping in with nine points each for the balanced Scots were Justin Wasik (Jr., Chicago, Ill. / Maine South) and Kyle Bernhard (Fy., Sleepy Hollow, Ill. / Dundee-Crown), while Dylan Kilgour (Fy., La Crescenta, Calif. / Crescenta Valley) added eight points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Hamline, now 8-12 overall and 5-10 in MIAC play, had a +5 advantage on the offensive boards and +3 lead in turnovers, was led by Dior Ford with 20 points and Noah Aguirre with 18.
The Scots, now 4-15 on the season and 1-13 in the MIAC, return to the court Saturday (Feb. 2) at home against Concordia-Moorhead at 3 p.m.
