GRAND RAPIDS – Albion College trimmed Calvin College's 19-point halftime lead to nine on two occasions midway through the second half, but that was as close as the Britons would get in a 83-63 loss to the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association leader Wednesday night.

A 7-2 run propelled Albion to a 19-14 lead midway through the first half and it tied the score at 21 on Carter Elliott's basket with less than seven minutes to play. Calvin dialed up from long distance – Bryan Powell, Jordan Brink, and David Rietema hit from 3-point range – as it surged to a 44-25 halftime lead.

Albion went on a 13-4 spurt to create a buzz in the VanNoord Arena crowd. The Britons trailed 51-42 when Eric Evans hit a free throw with 12 minutes to play. Anthony Wash tacked on a layup to keep the margin at nine, 53-44, but Brink responded with a "three" to slam the door on the Britons' rally.

Wash finished with a season-high 16 points, knocking down both of his shots from 3-point range. Evans, who was 3 of 6 from 3-point range, contributed 12 points. Chris Hutton reached double figures with 10.

Calvin's Powell led all players with 17.
