ERIE, PA - The Medaille College men's basketball team was looking to avenge an earlier season loss to Penn State-Behrend when they took to the road this evening.  However, a valiant Medaille comeback effort was thwarted by the Lions as Behrend pulled away late for a (64-55) win over the Mavs.

In a game where Penn State-Behrend led by as many as (13) points in the mid-portion of the first half, the Mavs stood strong and chipped away at the Lion lead.  The hosts led by nine at the intermission (32-23) at the half.  Yet a first half mini-surge by Medaille would cut away at the Behrend lead and seemingly give the Mavs some much needed momentum.

Medaille would grab their first lead with (7:31) remaining in the second half when Robby Seyler corralled in a rebound off a missed Behrend layup and turned it into a transition jumper on the other end of the floor for a (49-48) Medaille advantage.  The teams would trade buckets for a good portion of the final minutes of the second half.  However, some critical misses and crucial turnovers by the Mavs would force necessary fouls; and the Lions would knock down enough free throws to keep Medaille at arms length.

In the loss Medaille was led by sophomore Alex Baron who posted a team high (13) points on (5 of 8) shooting from the floor.  He was followed closely behind by teammate Jammal Coleman who netted (10) points while pulling down (4) rebounds and a team best (3) assists.  Junior Robby Seyler came off the bench to pull down a team high (6) rebounds while senior Josh Laureano chipped in with (8) points on (4 of 9) shooting.

Both teams struggled from beyond the arc with Medaille connecting on just (4 of 22) attempts for an (18.2%) performance.  Behrend's struggles proved to be even harder as the only hit on (1 of 8) attempts, finishing at (12.5%) for the night.  Both teams managed to score (30) points apiece in the paint while Behrend edged out the Mavs in points off turnovers at (16-14).

The loss drops Medaille to (12-8) overall and it marks a regular season sweep at the hands of the Lions, while dropping the Mavs to (9-4) in AMCC play. The Mavs are currently tied for second place in the AMCC standings.  They will look to stop a two game skid on Saturday (2/2) when they host Penn State-Altoona at 3:00pm in another conference tilt.
