GENESEO, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz men's basketball team (6-11, 4-6 SUNYAC) trailed, 41-26, at halftime against conference-leading SUNY Geneseo (13-5, 9-2 SUNYAC) on Friday night in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game at Schrader Gymnasium and wound up losing by a 76-61 final to the Blue Knights.

Senior forward Matt Devine (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) scored a game-high 25 points for the Hawks, shooting 7-of-12 from the floor and 9-of-9 from the line. Junior guard/forward Taylor Sowah (Bronx, N.Y./Miller Place) and senior guard/forward Shereef Taylor (Hyde Park, N.Y./Franklin D. Roosevelt) each reached double-digit scoring figures, too, with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Taylor also came up with a game-high three steals.

For Geneseo, four players reached double figures. Thomas Decker led the Blue Knights with 19 points, while Connor Fedge and Gordon Lyons scored 14 and 13 points, respectively. James McKenna netted 10 points coming off the bench. Ryan Riefenhauser grabbed a game-high 13 boards.

Geneseo shot 50.0 percent from the floor (22-of-44) for the game, including a 41.2 percent (7-of-17) mark from long range. New Paltz shot at a 38.3 percent (23-of-60) clip from the field, and it hit 73.3 percent (11-of-15) of its free throws. Each team had 32 rebounds, while the turnover margin favored Geneseo, 11-10.

The Hawks hopped out to a 6-2 lead thanks to four points from Devine , but an 11-2 Geneseo run gave the Blue Knights a 13-6 lead with 12:46 remaining in the first half. Geneseo led by as many as 18 points in the first half and took a 41-26 advantage into the break.

A Sowah layup capped a 6-0 run by New Paltz midway through the second stanza, which trimmed the deficit to 12. Geneseo swelled the lead back up to 19 points, though, building a significant cushion heading into the home stretch. The Hawks twice cut the Blue Knight lead to nine in the second half, but they were unable to come any closer.

New Paltz looks to snap its four-game losing streak tomorrow afternoon, as it faces The College at Brockport at 4 p.m. in a SUNYAC contest in Brockport, N.Y.
