Brooklyn, NY- The Medgar Evers College Men's Basketball team fell to the Baruch College Bearcats 86-77 on Friday January 18, 2013. The Cougars dropped to 7-10 Overall and 3-5 CUNYAC while the Bearcats improved to 10-6 Overall and 6-2 CUNYAC.
The Bearcats led 7-4 before Senior Captain and Guard Jovan Deare nailed a 3pt. shot tying the score at 7 (17:32) left in the 1st half. Baruch would regain the lead briefly, before Medgar Evers College took the lead. It came on a 3pt. shot from Sophomore Michael Taylor (12-11) with 14:52 left in the 1st half. They would lead for about 6 minutes. Baruch regained the lead when Granville Gittens hit a pair of free throws, making the score 21-20 with 8:35 left in the half. Medgar Evers College would cut the lead to 3pts., when Junior Ricco Oliver hit a 3pt. shot with 24 seconds left.
In the 2nd half, Baruch led the entire way. Medgar Evers College cut the lead to 2pts. when Michael Taylor hit 3 free throws (38-36) with 18:13 left in the game.
In the loss, Medgar Evers College was led by Sophomore Michael Taylor with 28pts (10-10 FT-FTA). Taylor grabbed 4 rebounds, tallied 3 assists and a steal. Junior Ricco Oliver scored 17pts (2-2 FT-FTA) and added an assist. Senior Captain and Guard Jovan Deare scored 14pts (1-3 3pt. FG-FGA, 7-9 FT-FTA), grabbed 7 rebounds, tallied 4 assists, 3 blocks, and 2 steals.
Baruch in the win was led by Granville Gittens with 20pts. Raymond De La Cruz scored 14pts, Rob Goldstein scored 13pts, and Fuat Yapar added 12pts.
The Cougars will be back in action on Wednesday January 23, 2013, when they travel to the Bronx, and play the Lehman College Lightning. Game time is 8pm and can be seen on ustream.tv/channel/mecathletics.
