Rams Fall to First Place Panthers

Old Westbury - 76, Farmingdale State - 60


Old Westbury, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's basketball team fell, 76-60, at Old Westbury last night. The Rams now stand at 12-5 and 8-2 in the Skyline, while the Panthers, who are in first place in the conference, improved to 15-3, 10-0.

In the first half, Old Westbury was led by senior guard Kerel Mitchell (Brooklyn, N.Y.) who connected on four 3-pointers and tallied 14 points. The Panthers hit six 3-point field goals and took a 42-26 lead into halftime.

Trailing 56-36 in the second half, six straight Farmingdale State points cut the deficit to 56-42 with 8:34 remaining. A pair of Old Westbury layups quickly extended the lead back to 18 points.

The Rams would close within 11, 71-60, with under two minutes to play, but the Panthers scored the games final five points for the 76-60 victory.

Junior guard Curtis Williams (Stony Brook, N.Y.) led the Rams with 12 points, five rebounds and three blocks, while senior guard Ryan Davis (Queens, N.Y.) had seven points and six assists.

Mitchell finished with a game-high 20 points and junior guard Tyrik Tucker (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added 16 points, nine boards, six steals and five assists for Old Westbury.

The Rams next will travel to Sage for a Skyline game on Saturday, January 26th at 3:00 p.m.
