TALE OF TWO HALVES SENDS MEN'S HOOPS TO 85-73 WIN OVER SAGE

OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) -The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's basketball team won its fourth straight game Tuesday evening after recording an 85-73 Skyline Conference victory over the visiting Sage Gators from the Clark Athletic Center.  The win improves Old Westbury (14-3) to 9-0 in conference play while Sage (8-8) fell to 3-6. 

In what started out to be a tight game with a seesaw battle in the opening minutes, Old Westbury seized the opportunity as Ty Moore's three pointer put the Panthers up for good with a 10-9 lead.  Old Westbury used a 39-12 run over the final 15:19 to take a 46-21 advantage into the half. 

Tyrik Tucker's layup opened the second half scoring for a 27 point Old Westbury lead, their largest lead of the game.  Sage answered back with a 17-5 run from 19:23 to 14:39 to make it a 15 point game, 53-38.  Moments later, Old Westbury's cushion climbed back up to 21 points on a three pointer by Omari Trebuse with 12:40 left for a 62-41 lead.  Sage's final push amounted in a 20-8 run from 12:40 to 3:44 to pull within nine points, 70-61.  Kerel Mitchell replied with a three ball to push the lead back up to double digits giving Old Westbury a 12 point lead.  Old Westbury took a 15 point lead with 2:12 remaining off a Mitchell layup and held on for an 85-73 win.

Ty Moore's career high 20 points, five steals and five assists led three other Panthers in double digit scoring.  Tyrik Tucker and Josh Hill both followed with 16 points and Kerel Mitchell added 12.  Tucker added five steals and five assists while Hill's nine rebounds tied a career high.  Darnell Chavis came off the bench to contribute eight points, eight rebounds and two blocks before fouling out.  Omari Trebuse dished out seven assists and is averaging 8.5 over the past two games.

Ryan Sager poured in a game high 21 points and pulled down 16 rebounds to lead Sage.  Matt Farbotko scored 15, Mason Horne added 14 and four steals while Jeff Stopera finished with 12 points and seven assists.  Jacob Sopchak rejected five shots off the bench. 

Old Westbury hit 42.7 percent from the field (32-75), 38.5 percent from three point territory (10-26) and 91.7 percent from the free throw line (11-12). Sage connected on 45.3 percent from the floor (29-64), 15 percent from beyond the arc (3-20) and 75 percent from the charity stripe (12-16).  Old Westbury held a 38-34 rebounding edge, while scoring 16 second chance points off 14 offensive boards.  Old Westbury also converted 19 Gator miscues into 25 points. 
  
FARMINGDALE STATE RAMS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to the hardwood looking to sweep the season series on Thursday (Jan. 24) evening with the Farmingdale State Rams in a Skyline Conference battle from the Clark Athletic Center.  Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. in Old Westbury, New York
