BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Senior guard Jeremy Smith scored 35 points to lead six double-figure scorers and Cortland shot 60 percent from the floor as a team in a 102-83 SUNYAC victory at Brockport.

Smith was 14-of-18 overall from the floor and connected on 4-of-8 three-pointers. Senior Jesse Winter finished with 21 points on 6-of-8 shooting and led the team with four assists and three steals. Senior Brian Manning tallied 13 points, junior Kevin McMahon finished with 12 points, senior Harrison Hefele totaled 11 points and sophomore Lamard Herron added 10 points.

McMahon and Herron led the Red Dragons with eight rebounds each. Smith and Hefele each had five rebounds, while Hefele and Herron handed out three assists each. The Red Dragons (12-3, 6-2 SUNYAC) made 38-of-63 field goals and sank 18-of-22 free throws (82 percent) in the victory. Cortland is tied for second in the SUNYAC with Plattsburgh, each a half game behind league leader Geneseo.

John Ivy paced Brockport (9-7, 4-5 SUNYAC) with 25 points. Lance Legister scored 13 points off the bench and Matt Lee chipped in with 10 points. Brandon Caruthers led the Golden Eagles with seven rebounds and four assists. Brockport shot 55 percent from the field in the first half, but cooled off in the second half and finished the game at 48 percent.

Brockport led for most of the first half. The Golden Eagles started the game on a 10-2 run and still led 26-18 with 11:32 left in the period. Cortland scored eight straight to tie the game, briefly led 31-30 on a Herron jumper with 8:02 remaining, and grabbed a 49-48 halftime lead after Smith buried a three-pointer with 13 seconds left.

Brockport's last lead of the night was 65-64 on a Legister free throw with 13:15 left. Smith scored six points in an 8-0 run that put Cortland ahead by seven, but the hosts hung tough and were still within five at 80-75 on a Derek Klein trey with 8:14 remaining.

Two McMahon baskets and five straight points by Smith pushed the Cortland lead to 89-75 at the 4:47 mark. The advantage was at least 11 points after that and grew to its largest point when Smith hit a jumper with 28 seconds left for the game's final points. Smith's 35 points are two shy of his career high – he scored 37 points in last year's SUNYAC tournament semifinals versus Geneseo.

Cortland will travel to Oneonta on Tuesday at 8 p.m. for a SUNYAC game.
