PATCHOGUE, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's basketball team continued to run through their Skyline Conference schedule with a punishing 118-63 road win over the St. Joseph's-L.I. Golden Eagles on Saturday evening from the Danzi Center. Old Westbury (13-3) improves to 8-0 in conference play while sending St. Joseph's-L.I. (4-11) to 2-6.
Old Westbury scored first and never looked back as Ty Moore broke the scoring ice with a jumper at the 19:20 mark. Moments later, Moore dropped in a layup to put Old Westbury up 15-0 before Keith Anderson scored to put St. Joseph's-L.I. on the board. Darnell Chavis' layup with 10:52 remaining gave Old Westbury a 29-9 lead and 8:30 later gave the Panthers a 43 point (60-17) cushion off a jumper with 2:22 left in the half. Old Westbury took a commanding 62-19 lead into the break.
The lead grew to as much as 56 points when Josh Hill netted a layup with 8:02 left in the game for a 99-43 lead. Hill put Old Westbury over the century mark with 7:11 left off a layup for a 101-45 advantage. Old Westbury scored in triple digits for the third time this season and entered the week fourth in the nation with an average of 87.5 points per game.
Josh Hill's 26 points (10-13 FG) tied a career high and led four other Panthers in double digits. Darnell Chavis followed with a monster 24 point (9-12 FG), 12 rebound double-double to go along with three steals. Tyrik Tucker finished with 23 points (11-19 FG), eight rebounds and four steals while Ty Moore poured in a career high 18 points (7-12 FG). Kerel Mitchell added 17 points, sinking five triples. Omari Trebuse set a career high with 10 assists and a season high four steals. Joshua Bailey also tied a career high with nine rebounds.
Will Fortune paced St. Joseph's-L.I. with 13 points while Jordan Kowalski and Keith Anderson followed with 12. Kowalski nabbed four steals and Anderson grabbed eight boards to lead the Golden Eagles.
Old Westbury knocked down 58.5 percent from the field (48-82), 38.1 percent from three point range (8-21) and 63.6 percent from the free throw line (14-22). St. Joseph's-L.I. hit 33.8 percent from the floor (26-77), 21.1 percent from beyond the arc (4-19) and 38.9 percent from the charity stripe (7-18). Old Westbury won the boards battle, 58-38, scoring 21 second chance points off 19 offensive rebounds. Old Westbury also converted 25 St. Joseph's-L.I. turnovers into 42 points.
