BABSON PARK, Mass. – Senior Russell Braithwaite (Brooklyn, N.Y.) became the 23rd player in Babson College men's basketball history to score 1,000 career points on Saturday, as he netted 18 to power the Beavers to a 74-49 win over visiting Wheaton College in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) matchup at Staake Gymnasium.

Babson (10-8, 2-4 NEWMAC) led throughout the contest, opening the game with a 9-0 run and eventually taking a 33-19 advantage at the half. Sophomore John Wickey (Manchester, N.H.) led all players with 11 points in the opening period for the Beavers, while Braithwaite added 10, including two on a breakaway dunk less than four minutes into the contest.

Braithwaite made history early in the second half, and he jammed home a miss by junior Matt Palazini (Franklin, Mass.) to move past the 1,000-point mark. Finishing with 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting, the senior forward now has 1,005 points in 96 career games.

Wheaton never got closer than 18 after Braithwaite's put-back slam, despite 10 second-half points from sophomore Ryan Clinesmith (New York, N.Y.). He finished with a team-high 12, while senior Scott Faucher (Lebanon, N.H.) added eight points and six boards.

Palazini led all players with 19 points for Babson, while Wickey finished with 14. Junior Kenny Ross (Furlong, Pa.) added another stellar all-around effort with 10 points, six rebounds, and six assists.

GAME NOTES: Babson now leads the all-time series with Wheaton, 25-11, since the squads first met in 1990. The Beavers have also won nine of the last 10 meetings dating back to 2009.
