Hornets Ride Second Half Surge to 70-51 Win Over Shenandoah

WINCHESTER, VA – The Lynchburg College men's basketball team outscored Shenandoah University 42-30 in the second half to pull away for a 70-51 win Saturday in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action.

Freshman Austen Arnold gave the Hornets their first lead of the game, 5-4, with a dunk against Shenandoah. SU's Xavier Alston answered Arnold with a layup on the home team's next possession. That would be the last time Shenandoah would lead as Lynchburg would respond with a layup from freshman Alex Graves to take a 7-6 lead just under four minutes in.

Shenandoah kept the game within single digits for the first five minutes to start the second half after trailing 28-21 heading into intermission.

Freshman Tyri Morring started a 10-0 run for the Hornets when his jumper gave LC an eight-point lead with under 15 minutes remaining. Arnold and Graves scored four and two points respectively during the run that was capped by a layup from senior Austin Chillemi. The Hornets held Shenandoah scoreless until the 10 minute mark when a layup by Alston cut the LC lead to 46-32.

Lynchburg (14-3/5-3) was led in scoring and rebounding by Chillemi's third double-double of the year as the senior poured in 17 points and 13 boards. Junior Manny Hernandez added 14 points and six rebounds. Arnold ended with 10 points, four boards, and three steals.

Sharif Almulla and Jared Carithers each had 16 points for Shenandoah (3-14/0-8).

Lynchburg travels to Guilford College (14-3/6-2) on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. opening tip.
