MADISON, Wis. – The Lakeland College men's basketball team held Edgewood College scoreless for more than nine minutes in the second half, turning a close game into a convincing 73-56 win Tuesday night at the Todd Wehr Edgedome.

The Muskies went on an 18-0 run, turning a two-point deficit into a 58-42 lead and ripping away momentum in a game that through just more than 20 minutes featured seven ties and 15 lead changes. Lakeland gained a sweep of two regular season games with the Eagles and continues to stay undefeated in the Northern Athletics Conference at 8-0, and also now at 15-2 overall has the best record in school history through 17 games.

The Muskies dominated the second half, holding the Eagles to 17.6% shooting and posting a 27-18 rebounding advantage in the final 20 minutes. Edgewood made just six of 33 shots from the field after halftime and shot just 29.5% for the game (18-of-61).

Lakeland shot well the entire game, finishing at 56.9% (29-of-51) from the floor, and took over in the second half with good shooting and after cutting down on its turnovers. The Muskies took the lead for good on a three-pointer by James Oshkeshequoam (Jr.-Keshena,Wis.) to make it 45-42 with 17:10 to play. Oshkeshequoam made five of his seven shots on the night and also shot 4-for-4 from three-point range.

The Muskies also got a lift from Justin Ward (Jr.-Wisconsin Dells, Wis.), who had a game highs of 19 points and eight rebounds. Ward shot 9-of-12 from the field for the game, carrying the offense along with Oshkeshequoam on a night when star forward Jake Schwarz (Sr.-Sheboygan, Wis.) was relatively quiet.

Schwarz finished with 14 points, hitting several big shots in the second half as the Muskies pulled ahead but finishing more than 10 points below his season scoring average. Schwarz did move into second on Lakeland's all-time scoring list by passing the 1,974 points of Waymon Stewart (1965-69). With 1,986 career points, Schwarz is now 22 points from tying the school record of 2,008 points set by John Koslowski (1980-84).

The Muskies' second half burst came after a first half in which the Eagles (4-13 overall, 3-5 NAC) hung tough. Neither team led by more than five points in the first half, with Lakeland capping an 8-0 run by going ahead 21-16 on a dunk by Ward, and Edgewood responding with a 6-0 burst for a 29-25 lead.

The Eagles went to halftime leading 36-35, leading Lakeland at halftime for the second time this season. Edgewood scored just eight points in the first 13 1/2 minutes of the second half, though, and the Muskies led by as many as 22 points in the second half.

Joe Klocek led Edgewood with 10 points. The Eagles made 6-of-13 three-point tries in the first half but were just 3-for-13 from behind the arc in the second half.

Schwarz will take aim at the school scoring record Thursday night as Lakeland hosts Milwaukee School of Engineering at 7 p.m. at Woltzen Gymnasium. The game will be available to watch and listen to live online at http://www.lakeland.edu/muskieslive.
