Geneseo Upends Buffalo State, 79-70

BUFFALO, NY—Geneseo (10-4/6-1) took over in the final four minutes of the game to deal host Buffalo State (8-5/3-4) its third-consecutive loss, 79-70, in a SUNYAC contest tonight at the Sports Arena.

Roderick Epps (Uniondale/Uniondale) and Jake Simmons (Rochester/School of the Arts) led Buffalo State with 18 points apiece.  Brad Doyley (Brooklyn/HS for Sports Management) added 10 points, and senior Seth Runge (Springville/Springville GI) had career-bests with 10 rebounds and six blocks to go with four points in just 17 minutes.

Buffalo State led for the majority of the opening half, pushing the lead to as many as nine before going into the break knotted at 42-42.  The Bengals pulled ahead again in the second half, remaining in front most of the way, despite never leading by more than four, but Geneseo mounted a late rally to seal the win.  The Knights used a 14-0 run to over a four minute stretch before the Bengals finally closed the scoring with a layup at the buzzer. 

The Knights battled on the boards, outrebounding the Bengals 48-38, and outscored Buffalo State, 18-7 at the free-throw line.  The Bengals recorded 10 blocked shots, compared to none by Geneseo.

Buffalo State will look to get back on track against Fredonia at home on Saturday at 8 p.m.
